Training

We provide expert training and guidance for organisations and teams who want to be part of the movement that creates a fossil-free internet by 2030.

Many digital and tech teams remain unaware that if the internet was a country, it would be the seventh highest emitter of CO2 emissions in the world.

Using experienced trainers, engaging content and uplifting case studies we:

  • teach the facts and realities about how sustainable digital really is;
  • explore options for meaningful action at individual, organisation and systemic levels;
  • showcase how others are already making a difference successfully;
  • signpost to tools and experts you can work with on your journey.

Frequently asked questions

What do you charge for your courses?

Our mission is to raise as much awareness as possible about the topic of digital sustainability, whilst sustaining our non-profit organisation and the development of our open source tools for the public good. Our rates are set to represent excellent value for money. Please get in contact so we can discuss a quote.

Who are the courses aimed at?

Our training is aimed at people either developing digital services, or making heavy use of digital for their operations and who want to understand the concepts of leveraging a more sustainable approach.

We tend to have a mix of attendees. Some perform technical/engineering roles, but many work with digital tech in support or operational roles. For example service managers, product managers, ops leads, sustainability champions and their subsequent teams – it takes all functionst in an organisation working together to make an impact on digital sustainability. Our trainers are themselves seasoned developers and will be able to give guidance on technical topics if required during our sessions.

How many participants are your courses designed for?

Our courses are best with between 6 and 10 people in each session.

Can I attend your training as an individual, or is it for whole teams only?

Our training is best suited to whole teams who are looking to take action to make their tech more sustainable. We currently don’t offer training for individuals. The best place to look for training for individuals is via the Climate Action Tech community – join the Slack group in order to access the list they keep.

Who will the trainer be?

Our current trainers are Chris Adams or Hannah Smith. Both Chris and Hannah have extensive experience working with digital tech as developers and service managers, and get a special kick out of helping others learn about digital sustainability.

Do you offer bespoke training?

Yes, we can offer bespoke training to fit the needs of your organisation. Please get in touch and let us know your needs.

Do have any resources for self-guided learning?

Yes, if you’re interested in doing some learning and exploring on the topic of digital sustainability then we have a few things that might be of interest to you:

The Fog of Enactment – we published this report as a high-level overview of what it’ll take to get the digital tech industry to a place of sustainability.

Branch Magazine – a collection of articles about creating a just and sustainable internet. We’ve published four issues of this now and it’s always full of fascinating stuff.

Our fellowship notebook  – we ran our first fellowship with fellows last year (actually I was one of them!), and we committed to sharing our learning in the open. Here’s some more info on the fellowship in general, do take a look at the notebook as well.

If there is something else you are looking for but can’t find it you are welcome to contact us and ask for some pointers.
